What did you indulge in at the house, what did you give up?

Hi again.

I have a board as a slide - but it is almost never needed. It was only really useful for moving in (furniture). I get the rest of the things up and down by myself, without help. And in no time at all.

Most things - including for the outdoor area, the things that should not be outside in winter - I now have in the attic. Tiles. Laminate. Materials. Tool cabinets. Tools. Everything there. I know where everything is, it is accessible. Well lit. Fits.

My roof there is structurally a cold roof. I monitor the climate conditions in two places a bit, so nothing gets too damp. But so far it’s fine. At a nearby supplier I bought lots of plastic storage containers for very little money. With wheels underneath and good lids. Books and such are inside. I can reach everything quickly and the attic thus proves to be extremely usable. Much better than I thought.

I will still need a garden shed. Just: nowhere near as big as originally planned. The lawn mower still has to fit in there (poor thing: currently standing outside under tarps that are blowing away in the storm.....:eek). And a bit of the now by no means so meager garden tool stuff, which I still have in the utility room. It’s only 4.5 sqm - yet still tidy despite all the clutter.

Best regards
Thorsten

From where does the winch operate? So with the winch, loads can be lifted up to the attic. Which opening is used for that? On which level is the starting point for the winch transport? 1st floor? How do things get there? Or is there a transport shaft to the ground floor? Or is transport done from the outside? (If there were photos of this, I would be totally thrilled!)

From where does the winch operate?
- The winch is mounted on the (tapering) roof rafters, directly below the gable roof.

So with the winch, loads can be lifted up to the attic. Which opening is used for that?
- The attic hatch

On which level is the starting point for the winch transport? 1st floor?
- Yes.

How do the items get there?
- I carry the items up there.

Or is there a transport shaft down to the ground floor?
- In principle, it would be possible to reach the ground floor via the staircase using a redirect pulley. But in my experience (in my house), it doesn't make sense.

Or is transport done from outside? (If photos come with this, I would be totally thrilled!)
- No
- Photos will follow in the next few days

What we have done without:
- Basement
- Protrusions and recesses, 80s-style bay window
- Separate dressing room, a wardrobe is enough
- Third bathroom (children’s bathroom or, even worse, a parents’ bathroom accessible only through the parents’ bedroom), completely excessive even for 5 people
- Kitchen island
- Laundry chute
- Smart home

What we have treated ourselves to:
- Wooden house in post-and-beam construction with a lot of visible wood as a KfW55 house, certainly somewhat more expensive than brick by brick
- Large plot of 1100 sqm (at around 80€/sqm + additional costs not unaffordable either)
- Insulated roof (only a small surcharge)
