The house is probably already finished. I would appreciate an update with new pictures.
Hello Dillinger,
I didn’t expect anything else to come here; it took a while before I noticed it.
Well, a house is never really completely finished ;-) But we moved in mid-August and feel absolutely great so far. There’s still quite a bit to do in the basement. Also, in many places there are still construction light sockets instead of nice lights. That’s also because we have a few special ideas regarding lighting. I’ll probably install that stuff after Christmas. Then there are little things like putting in baseboards (we painted and laid the floor ourselves), installing the doorbell/intercom, electrical installation in the garage.
During the construction phase, child #2 was announced; they moved in with us in February (still in the old apartment), so we put less important things like the basement and garage on hold for now. Overall, the share of DIY work suited us well. We did quite a bit ourselves but never overdid it. It was planned from the start so that we could outsource everything, so everything we did ourselves was more of a bonus. But especially with the second child in mind, work is enough for now; I would say we finished just right.
Regarding pictures: Since we have already moved in and with the two little ones it’s never really tidy here, I’d be reluctant to post pictures now. My wife surely wouldn’t find that very appealing either (oh yes, we got married in the meantime; at the beginning of the construction phase we were still single). But if you want to see something specific, I can certainly prepare a snapshot.
Regards,
