Hello , it seems you really didn't give up anything hehe.

I don't know flush skirting boards at all, would you take the trouble to post a photo of them here for me?

Okay, here we go....

We treat ourselves to:
- 2.95 m clear room height on the ground floor, 2.70 m on the upper floor
- Gallery in cathedral ceiling on the upper floor
- Gable with oval-round windows
- Roof terrace (legally hardly avoidable anyway)
- Separate children's bathroom on the upper floor
- Partly folding shutters on the upper floor
- Floor-level, tiled showers
- Towel radiator
- Concrete staircase from basement to upper floor with oak stair treads, wooden posts and omega handrail
- Large kitchen/dining area (36 sqm) with kitchen island
- Country-style fireplace
- Meranti wooden windows with P4A glass and RCN2 locking
- Electric roller shutters on the ground floor
- Wooden front door with glass inserts (left / right and transom)
- Herholz cassette doors
- free@Home bus system
- Masonry double garage (with hip/gable roof) with dirt lock and storage
- Partly living basement (fully underfloor heating, partly wood-decor vinyl) including guest room and bathroom
- Vault grates for light wells for security
- Jacobi clay roof tiles
- 42.5 monolithic aerated concrete block
- Daylight spots in the gallery

We have given up on
- Walk-in closet
- many things that would still be possible..... ....but actually we are already delusional anyway.

I have now read everything from start to finish, taken in many inspiring things - I will either play the lottery or rob a bank.

Seriously: You can make a nice long list out of it and then put it in an order to see what really absolutely must be done and what you can most easily do without.

There are things, as long as you are considering them, that can only be done during the construction phase and cannot be changed afterwards (and if they can, only with considerable effort). I am thinking of flooring, doors, light openings, and so on. Things that can be retrofitted are therefore pretty low on my list. And some highlights had to disappear completely because, from our point of view, the cost-benefit factor was not convincing. And so everyone has an individual list of things they want or have.
To the question, what do you really need?
My answer: a few walls, windows, a door would also be quite smart, and a roof.

That is certainly true; considering it from the perspective of "what one needs," one could buy a young house from a broken family and save 100,000 EUR or 150,000 EUR, not to mention all the time and stress involved in planning and carrying out the construction of a house.

But "what one wants" is to realize one's ideas and visions of comfort/luxury/modern living as best as possible within the available budget.

There were many things that I had already firmly on my list, many things that already seem "normal," but also many things I had not thought of before. And especially the smaller things are exciting, whether it is a toilet without a rim or a switch in the wall that turns off all the entertainment electronics. Thanks to the suggestions, I also clearly see the potential here to easily burn an additional 50,000 EUR, so I thought a list would be very helpful for me.
