I absolutely agree with you. I would also be the last person not to look for a solution when there are complaints. But I would not accept a blanket ban on listening to music on my terrace sometimes. But I don't think anyone would demand that either. As so often in life, it's about the dose and the "how."

I think it would also bother me a lot if my neighbor basically had music playing outside all day long.

Yes, that is annoying, I know the situation from our townhouse settlement where we used to live. When the radio was also playing outside (Schlager) and no one was home or in the garden, the direct neighbor climbed over and turned it off to the applause of some other neighbors. : maybe you can forge an Allianz, others have to hear the music too...

Exactly. The plan before we resort to more drastic measures would be to calmly talk about it again over the next shared coffee, not in a rushed moment. The idea of involving a doctor is not bad at all. And I just want to maybe make them understand once more that for me this is not "it annoys a little," but that the problem affects us so much that we are considering moving away. I imagine that they actually like us, and I like them personally as well, and they also have a child exactly the age of my son. Maybe I could also offer—though I don’t know if that might come across as cheeky?—to buy him a Bose wireless headset for the days he works in the garden and is therefore quite loud because he’s running all over the garden, etc... That would be way better music quality for him, and peace for us. He wouldn’t always have to use it, but if it could reduce the problem a little? ...

Unfortunately not, I don’t think it affects anyone except us. We are the only neighbors directly adjacent to it (see my high-quality sketch). The noise barrier also extends a bit further on their side – no one comes behind that. On our side there is a sports field, next to it a pasture. And on the other side of the neighbor’s house there is just nature, meadow, soon a pedestrian path to another part of the settlement. But the next neighbor there lives set back quite a bit forward, I don’t think they notice it. IN FRONT of our house you can hardly hear it anymore. It is only extremely annoyingly audible in the living room/kitchen (of course we also have an open, huge room) and in our garden. Edit: Oh yes and of course in the bathroom, how could it be otherwise. It is directly above it. Taking a bath in peace is also not possible. :(
