I don't think you can generalize from yourself to others. I don't know anyone whose children shower for 25 minutes, even when they're older. Locking the door would only be a solution if it bothers you that someone from the family comes in. There are supposed to be families where people don't care at all if Dad sees their bottom.

Haha, I used to think that too! Meanwhile, the teens always lock the bathroom door when they are in there, and sometimes the showers are really so long that we parents had to limit it so there's still warm water for the next person. We have never locked the bathroom in the family and have never used it alone so far; we have always taught water and energy saving, so it can't be because of that either.

So I would find it pretty strange if, in 8 years, I were watching my then 14-year-old daughter shower while I sit on the potty. Are there fathers who do that? By the way, I would find it even stranger if she lets herself be watched or... even worse, would like to watch me shower... I'll just file that under "no idea about children," even if you have some yourself...

Those who lock bathroom doors don’t know paramedics.
When the annual bill from the municipal utilities arrives, the whole family contributes to the back payment per head (including the kids from twelve up). Many families simply lack an instructor Schmidt.

... or had parents as a teenager who somehow didn’t understand that privacy/intimacy is a very important thing at that age.

My three also leave all doors unlocked. But it is a matter of course to knock or ask if you may come in. The question of locking doors has never arisen.

Instead of laughing at each other or dogmatically applying the behaviors of one's own children to everyone else, one could simply agree that there is more than one type of teen. Of course, you can't predict how they will turn out later. If my children end up behaving differently as teens, then I'll deal with the problem when the time comes. There are still a few years left.
