Is a satellite system still necessary in new buildings, or is IPTV sufficient?

Crisp sharp.
Recording, as the visit to the daughter's parents-in-law in their pool could not be ended early enough.
IPTV FTW.

And you think that wouldn’t be possible with Sat?! In this case, I don’t see a real USP for IPTV. It’s once again a self-inflicted problem with the "new internet". The DSL network is too patchy to use IPTV nationwide as a replacement for cable or Sat. With the bandwidth available to us of a maximum of 18MBit, I wouldn’t want to rely entirely on IPTV, especially when all the neighbors turn on their devices at prime time and then quite a bit of throughput has to go through the copper.

That is then a local problem. If you live in well-served areas, the downtime should be extremely limited (unless you have internet via cable). We currently have VDSL from Telekom with 100 MBit (250 would be possible) and it runs so stably. Well, I’m not really interested in football, but for that you might still have the Sat receiver as a fallback in the rack.

Why? What does that mean? Is cable more susceptible?

Cable is also a shared medium. This can often lead to massive drops in data throughput or it simply fails for a few hours. The contracted speed is often more of a hopeful wish. I myself and also customers have consistently had no particularly good experiences with cable in the past.

It is not really different with DSL either...

But with cable, I am in a fortunate position. I can easily book 1000 Mbit here. Tests with 2000 Mbit are already running...
