Is a satellite system still necessary in new buildings, or is IPTV sufficient?

I believe it's simply a matter of one's own usage behavior. I used to have cable TV and it was trouble-free and I really liked it. However, I then realized that I was almost only streaming, and for the past two years I have had only internet over cable without TV, and that is absolutely sufficient for me. If I absolutely have to watch ARD or ZDF, then I do it via Zattoo. And in a single-family house, it doesn't bother anyone if neighbors theoretically could cheer a few milliseconds earlier during the World Cup.

I am sure that usage behavior is increasingly tending towards streaming for many people. It's simply great to choose what you want to watch and not be dependent on what is being broadcast exactly when. I can't even imagine the dependence on the time of day anymore. Whether someone calls, you have to go to the toilet, come home late, or whatever: You watch when you want, not when something "has to be watched" at that moment.

We see it similarly. Linear TV is also 99.5% obsolete for us. Nevertheless, I did not dare to do without it completely. In the end, something really important happens, the internet goes down, and you can't watch [ARD Sondersendungen]...

If the internet goes out, you still have your current series or movies saved in Netflix/Amazon offline mode! And in the worst case, you just watch them via mobile hotspot 4g/5g!

Warning, pessimism: In a disaster situation, I care very little about the latest episode of Game of Thrones. For me, it's more about information.

For disaster scenarios, nothing can replace a radio (AM/FM/DAB, all three!) with batteries that is checked annually. For the panickers, possibly with a small solar cell. Because if the internet and mobile networks go down, there is very likely no power either. Then satellite won't help either; only radio counts...

However, one should not get information from the consumed reporting of Ard/ZDF!
And even if so, it is still possible with 4g/5g!
