I believe it's simply a matter of one's own usage behavior. I used to have cable TV and it was trouble-free and I really liked it. However, I then realized that I was almost only streaming, and for the past two years I have had only internet over cable without TV, and that is absolutely sufficient for me. If I absolutely have to watch ARD or ZDF, then I do it via Zattoo. And in a single-family house, it doesn't bother anyone if neighbors theoretically could cheer a few milliseconds earlier during the World Cup.
I am sure that usage behavior is increasingly tending towards streaming for many people. It's simply great to choose what you want to watch and not be dependent on what is being broadcast exactly when. I can't even imagine the dependence on the time of day anymore. Whether someone calls, you have to go to the toilet, come home late, or whatever: You watch when you want, not when something "has to be watched" at that moment.
