Is a satellite system still necessary in new buildings, or is IPTV sufficient?

In Switzerland, there is a threat to block Netflix, YouTube, and others

"A massive overload of the network is mainly caused by excessive viewing of the latest series on Netflix. Streaming services consume mobile data on a large scale. Such platforms are used even more frequently during times of crisis when many people cannot leave their homes.

To counteract this, the Swiss operator „Swisscom“ has already urged its customers to „responsibly use telecommunications,“ writes the „Neue Zürcher Zeitung“ (NZZ). Prioritized are currently the needs of business customers who have a system-relevant function. That means all those who work in a central service of national supply.

The federal government also has appropriate means to shut down streaming services, which it is willing to use. In a discussion between the federal government and telecom companies, the population was advised to use streaming services sparingly. The NZZ quotes: „Should serious bottlenecks occur, the federal government has the possibility to restrict or block non-supply-relevant services.“

A satellite system fundamentally does not have this bandwidth problem.

Germany does not fundamentally have it either. The DE-CIX just smiles tiredly at such "loads." At heart, however, I still agree with you.

The problem is not such nodes or carrier networks, but the (small) providers and their infrastructure to the end customer.

Sure, satellite does not have this problem. But please enlighten me, what does this have to do with Netflix and co? Can they also be received via satellite, no, right?

No, Netflix is a streaming service, meaning you need internet.
