Is a satellite system still necessary in new buildings, or is IPTV sufficient?

What the hell would you want to watch to lay extra cables in the house and install sockets that are good for nothing else, and even stick an ugly metal dish prominently on the roof? Also pay hundreds of euros for that? Crazy stuff

Well, for example, an interesting documentary or an older series that cannot be streamed is playing somewhere, and you want to save it locally at the same time so that you can watch it over and over again. You then record it and watch something else in the meantime. I admit that in times of Netflix & Co such a situation will certainly not occur too often, but it happens now and then.

That does not happen. All (quality) documentaries are on the public broadcasters' media libraries. Also Babylon Berlin or other series from the public broadcasters. No one needs private channels anymore. The advertising is unbearable. We even watch the Tagesschau in the media library ourselves because we never turn on the TV exactly at broadcast time.

As a heavy user, I can say clearly that a satellite system is a relic of the last century. Only one scenario comes to mind in which a satellite system is essential: if you have to live in free areas in Germany with >High-Speed Internet<.

Absolute nonsense, but whoever still watches Tagesschau today has probably missed the point anyway.

Where exactly do you watch dmax, ZDF neo, arte, etc.? As far as I know, free access is only possible via Sat.

Anyone who watches dmax has lost control over their life.

Just a little joke. I probably phrased it too drastically. But I don't see a use case for satellite except for poor internet reception. But that's also because I generally don't watch linear TV except sports. And the latter all runs via stream.

Well, DMAX is trash TV and the public broadcasters are available for free on the internet or via their app or other streaming apps (in the free account).
