Is a satellite system still necessary in new buildings, or is IPTV sufficient?

We do have an old building that we renovated, but we also had a satellite dish installed, even though we stream most things. Every now and then you still watch regular TV, so we have not regretted spending the money.

We have IPTV from Teleklem in the living room, all other rooms (study, kitchen, both children's rooms, bedroom) have satellite connections.

So we are running dual systems. Considering the total house construction costs, the 800 euros for a satellite system are negligibly low.

We are currently planning without satellite systems and with IPTV. Although Telekom does not develop our construction area, we are getting a fiber optic connection from a regional provider. We can already book a TV connection HERE. We have also shown ourselves sufficient options with Giga TV as an alternative, Zattoo, or our own KODI box (Raspberry Pi) with libreelec. Furthermore, 5G will be available everywhere in the foreseeable future (2-5 years). IPTV will then also be feasible via this.

We have Fiber to Home from Telekom, meaning the fiber goes all the way to the utility room. Still, I am glad about Sat, because strangely about once a month the internet is disrupted, sometimes only for two or three minutes, sometimes for over an hour, and sometimes a router restart can fix it. Sat, on the other hand, always works except during heavy rain or snowstorm.

The decision is not only a question of bandwidth. Also playing a role are: - the international proxy-free receivable channel offerings - television without "Smart TV" and the associated data traces - proven connection stability

We have dropped satellite. That was a hurdle because you leave familiar paths. But we don’t miss anything. TV comes via Zattoo or another app of choice. Works everywhere, picture quality is good. Nowadays there is Entertain and Vodafone IPTV also without a connection from them, i.e. the market is liberalizing. Very nice.

However, we also watch very little linear TV, it must be said. Sky etc. is also not an issue for us but is nowadays available via app as well. We have never had outages. We have fiber optic from a regional provider who would also offer their own IPTV, but that would be more expensive and can do less than Zattoo, waipu and all their like.
