Our satellite dish has now been installed for a while, and I can provide some new insights: DLNA works very well, even when I use several devices simultaneously. The Triax is rarely more than 50% utilized. Overall, the Triax offers 4 tuners, so you can record or watch on 4 devices at the same time. Unfortunately, with DLNA there is no EPG, but that is forgivable. What I absolutely cannot get to work is TVHeadend on my NAS. The Triax and its four tuners are recognized, but no channels are found. A pity. What works really well, however, is recording. For this, I use a Synology package called "tvstreamrecord," which can record DLNA streams – even up to four simultaneously (only limited by the number of available tuners and the LAN bandwidth). The hardest part was almost getting everything running on a normal laptop. SAT>IP clients usually cost money. VLC can actually do DLNA as well, but at least for me it doesn’t find the Triax. If I enter URLs manually, it works though. Only you first have to find those URLs. Overall, it is a really decent system with a great recording function (in my opinion).

It also sounds like a bit of a makeshift solution.

A bit off-topic: I am amazed at the effort that goes into television! We haven't planned anything for TV in the new building, neither cable connection nor satellite system. I have to say that I generally reject TV, and I would never allow TVs in the children's rooms. In our old house, we have a TV in the living room connected to a PC where we can stream something sometimes. We have a few subscriptions like Netflix or Amazon Prime, watch maybe an average of 2 hours per week, so we are not completely behind the times. But "normal" TV, isn't that a bit "out"?

I don't like a term like "out." Everyone may/can do what they enjoy and how they like it, therefore that does not apply to something like TV/multimedia etc.
An advantage of a satellite system is, for example, that you can record. We have already recorded a lot of things for our children that we might "need" someday. And there are actually many things that are still not legally available on streaming services that are broadcast on television. Since storage space is not expensive, you can easily get some things that way.

I think that “Fernsehen“ is a dying model, although that will certainly take another decade. Instead of SAT cables, just lay LAN cables in all rooms and you can map everything on them. I am not planning on watching television either. The little bit we really want to watch, we can do via streaming services. DVB-T2 still exists as well.

To each his own...

IMHO, the 500-1000 euros for satellite wiring including everything and all doesn't really matter in the context of building a house...
