Is a satellite system still necessary in new buildings, or is IPTV sufficient?

For me: €90 + €190 net
I spent a bit of time on it today. The dish still costs €100, Multiswitch: €200 +...

We will definitely install a satellite system somewhere on the house. Telekom currently only offers an 18MBit wood cable in our street. Expansion is supposed to come at an as yet undetermined time. Since we will also do the satellite distribution in the server cabinet, it will be possible to retrofit quickly later on (remove coax cables and add additional network cables).

I am currently torn back and forth about where to place the satellite system. The electrician charges €760 net for the system + €70 net for the satellite tile. Installation location on the roof. Alternatively, I could install the satellite system on the east side of the house myself. But then the cables would have to go through the wall. The cheapest alternative is a Selfsat on the French balcony on the 1st floor. I haven't been able to choose a favorite yet, current tendency is towards the house wall, as maintenance access is possible here through the window in the attic.

The internet providers offer their great IP boxes. I saw that at a customer’s place, an expensive OLED is mounted on the wall and needs such a great set-top box. But then only one device can be operated, so extra costs for a second set-top box.

Satellite system on the roof must be grounded, for existing buildings it’s always a topic how to get the cable to the equipotential bonding. No grounding needs to be provided on the wall from 1m upwards. However, if it is planned over a conservatory, access then is a great thing (I have experienced that).

But I would definitely install a satellite system and not just buy it at Bauhaus or Amazon. Most of the time it just looks stupid afterwards.

After some research, I ordered the SAT system on Amazon and have to say, I am absolutely impressed with the reception quality. I did not expect that. I had no prior experience with satellite reception. It is located on the east side.
