Since the subject of the post fits well, I am using it to get a question off my chest.
Last week I applied for the Telekom house connection for next year. An APL inside is to be installed. In the online application, I indicated that I would not provide a cable trench. Then I had a phone inquiry and told the employee on the phone accordingly. He said that then there would be no empty conduit, so the civil engineering work would be carried out without it. I agreed that this would be okay. This morning I then received the confirmation by email and suddenly it says under conditions that I would be responsible for the cable duct. I called again immediately and told the other employee on the phone that I would like Telekom to have dug a trench. On various websites and forums it says that 15m are included in the flat rate. At first she didn’t want to know anything about it and then after several inquiries said she would change it.
I have two questions about this. Is it possible that employees are trained not to take on the civil engineering work themselves as much as possible? And second question: could I be at a disadvantage if the civil engineering work is carried out without an empty conduit? We only have copper installed and if fiber optic should be installed later, that would no longer be possible, right? Or would it then be dug up again anyway? I can imagine there are also older houses without empty conduit...
Our electricity probably runs on the side of the property, since the overhead line arrives there on a wooden pole and goes underground to the house in the second row. The Telekom connection is at the front in the street, so I wanted to be sure not to have to pay for two cable ducts in the worst case.
