If you receive the DECT signal of the Fritzbox, then you only need a DECT handset with a charging cradle but no network connection. For example, a Gigaset C430HX. You shouldn't put the Fritzbox in the steel cabinet.

Otherwise, there are still a few other possibilities:
- Connect the telephone port of the Fritzbox to a port of the patch panel and connect the analog phone to the other side. Here, a network cable is misused as a telephone cable. You just have to organize the correct cables.
- VoIP DECT base station like the Gigaset GoBox connected to the network somewhere in the house. Alternatively, a Fritzbox can also be used as a DECT base station.
- Buy a VoIP phone and connect it to the network.

In our old house, we solved the Fritzbox situation by using a duplex cable where one line led WAN upstairs and the other LAN downstairs into the rack. This way, the Fritzbox was on the ground floor and everything was fine. DECT out of a metal box works just as poorly as WLAN out of a metal box.

There are DECT-LAN gateways from Gigaset; you then only need the SIP access data from the provider and the Fritzbox could stay in the basement. Such a device could be placed somewhere in the house.

I still like to use landline phones, either as a house phone or as a hotline to parents and parents-in-law. Also, a second number is always useful if you have to give out your number somewhere and don’t want that person to bother you on your mobile. This number then gets the Fritzbox internal answering machine and I call back when I feel like it.

Thanks, that will be the solution then. Did you see the quote from with the photo? He/She has the Fritzbox in the "steel cabinet" and still receives DECT upstairs. I don't want to go overboard with the wiring, but I don't want to give up fixed-line yet. The reasons are those mentioned by .

As you correctly noticed, the DECT reception from the network cabinet in the basement (under the basement stairs) is sufficient for an attic with a FritzFon. Then you only need a power outlet at the place where the FritzFon is supposed to stand and you can use the comfort functions of the Fritzbox. Additionally, you can use the FritzFon app with Android or iOS. This also works great for us.

If that should not work, I have listed another 5 options in another post on how to enable telephony:

I hope that helps.

Dear forum,
we have sampled our network connections as described in post #49. So, a total of four connections for ceiling access points. Unfortunately, I overlooked that besides the installation cable, there should also be a flush-mounted box. The first precast ceiling is now on the basement floor. The electrician only installed an empty conduit from the ceiling there. I probably won’t have a chance to get the installation cable and patch cable into the access point, right?
For the next two ceilings, I have informed our construction manager about the wish for the flush-mounted empty box. I was also pressed for time here and still don’t know whether this can still be implemented.
How would you proceed in my case? Have the concrete of the precast ceiling broken up so that there is room for the installation cable next to the empty conduit and the access point can be installed above?

I have been annoyed for days that I overlooked this tip back then:
