What does rather short product life cycle mean?! I assume that every new Fritzbox will support such functions and that Fritzbox, due to its widespread use, will play a bigger role in the smart business in the future. After all, it is a data protection-compliant way to make your home a bit smarter, which is not the case with most others (Alexa and co). Especially since the data even remains your own property. This is also not the case with most others. I expect that in the coming years, there will hopefully be enough alternatives to further giving away or even paying for giving away your own data. Fritz is a tangible alternative here.

That may be true, but I wouldn’t be surprised if AVM eventually realizes that the DECT-based connection of components doesn’t work that well after all, and then it will quickly be over again. That doesn’t have to be the case, but with the multitude of different systems currently flooding the market, I can’t imagine that all will survive in the long term. In particular, I also don’t see why one should operate with radio-based solutions right from the start in new buildings. Anyway, a generation of Fritz!Boxes may live for five or six years. For a doorbell system, I would definitely prefer a longer usage horizon, since hopefully the house will stand longer than five years.

but I don't want to integrate via DECT at all. according to my knowledge, video would be excluded anyway?! I would actually prefer a simple bus 2 cable solution. and the fritz.box does that really well. just connect the intercom basically as a phone and in the FritzBox I set which fritz.phone should ring. set a different ringtone on that phone and everything is great. it would be nice if you could also connect the door opener directly to the fritzbox. but apparently, that’s not possible?! so that the fritzbox really takes over the complete controlling. technically, that shouldn't be an issue at all.

Then I apparently misunderstood this

The fact is, AVM is fully relying on DECT here, but if their "Smart" Home approach were to be discontinued at some point, this would probably no longer work over cable either.

In any case, I would not necessarily combine my internet router with the main entrance to my house without good reason, data sovereignty or not. The inexpensive door intercom systems probably do not have the option to integrate this online in any form, so that opening the door "remotely" would be possible. Whether one wants that, however, is a far more important question for me, because what is considered secure today can already be "hacked" tomorrow.

I am also looking for a solution, but I simply want the "video doorbell" to be connected via LAN and not via WLAN, for security reasons. I don’t want to open the door with it, just see who is standing in front of it. This should be realized via a separate module and accessed via tablet or smartphone when I am at home. Although the devices are connected via WLAN, I would still have access to the doorbell since it is in my network. Isn’t there something like this available cheaper?

There isn’t much leeway regarding the height, it comes naturally. I would estimate about 1.70/1.80m height. The research was done a while ago. I don’t know of any other system that offers such a solution: - Video intercom system - Acceptance via smartphone from anywhere - Possibility to unlock - Decoupling of the relay through a separate controller - REST API for integration into own automations etc. - Power supply via PoE - Possibility to open the door via RFID or fingerprint etc. Often there are video intercom systems that do not offer a door opener and/or are battery powered. I don’t want either. I also don’t want a surface-mounted solution, but something properly integrated. What alternatives do you know? I’m happy to learn as well.
