What did you indulge in at the house, what did you give up?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget.
Some wishes get dropped.
But some small luxuries or beautiful things are important to you, even if they are not essential, and you end up realizing them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. But we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would like to hear what you gave up and what you included.

Best regards

Location, location, location! We want to indulge in this and therefore buy a house in the city instead of building luxuriously outside beyond the seven mountains.

The garage is being omitted for now, but there will be barrier-free showers upstairs and downstairs and parquet everywhere except in the hallway, wet areas, kitchen, and a bit more electrical work (spots in the floorboards and bathrooms)... those are our luxury moments in the house

Granted:
- Location with a view of greenery, not overlooking other houses like, for example, in the town 10 minutes away
- walk-in showers
- and some other extras

Foregone:
- larger plot on which we could have built a flat roof (we were allowed to build it on ours but it would have looked mediocre due to the eaves height restriction compared to the neighboring houses and wouldn’t have really fit on the plot anyway)
- fireplace
- garage
- photovoltaic (conduits are installed)
- KNX/EIB
- swimming pool
- outbuildings for cooks, cleaning help, fitness trainer and au pair
- oh, there’s so much...

Hmm, to be honest, I couldn't name anything we've given up on so far, but we're just starting with the interior finishing now.
So far, we have definitely treated ourselves to
- the large plot
- the large house
- many large anthracite-colored windows
- the double garage.

We would still like to treat ourselves to
- a sauna in the bathroom
- a walk-in shower
- rimless toilets (does that count too? )
- a fireplace
- a terrace roof
- ...

Actually, you treat yourself to the whole package. After all, you choose what you like and everyone chooses something different according to their taste

Hello, very interesting, quite different. , you seem to be in a rather unique situation where your budget covers all your wishes. Enjoy it! But you are also right in a way, everyone fulfills their essential desires, and that is very individual. Twice already here the garage was given up - I had also thought about giving it up. But I have already lived without a garage, and that was annoying. Just removing snow and scraping windows in winter - it brings me too much stress in everyday life. Also, we don't have a basement.
