Do I read "envy" there or just prejudices again (big car = company car)? Am I even allowed to park our privately paid A6 in our 30k garage?

I wonder where you see envy or prejudice in that? Can't it simply be that Nupogodi just doesn't value a garage that much because he doesn't get any use out of it?

From the start, we said that we wouldn't build/need a garage, and would instead build a carport because that is completely sufficient for our cars. I’m not going to build a garage for 30K€ just to park cars inside that are worth barely half that amount. The ratio just doesn't fit.

We simply don’t care about cars and therefore don’t see why we should invest a lot of money in them.

That doesn't mean we are envious of people who have a different perspective and therefore invest money in cars.

Do I detect a craving for recognition?

You actually need to be shown the invoices and the house to believe that you can get a normal standard, solid house under 1500 euros/sqm? In the new federal states, mind you.

Without the plot, we stayed under 200,000 for 1.5 solid 122 sqm (ok, no clinker) including outdoor facilities with carport.
Believe it or not, we even have electricity and running water.

But 200k for 160 sqm with clinker facade, outdoor facilities and kitchen? That's also 35 percent bigger...
I consider such values "dangerous" because people here can quickly drive themselves into bankruptcy due to miscalculations. I know what I paid for every craftsman two years ago (and I built comparatively cheaply), and I don't think there has been a price drop. And standard is not necessarily the same for everyone...
And outdoor facilities are not all the same... Some just climb over a pallet into the house for 2 years, or pave something themselves with concrete stones, others perhaps have 60 sqm terrace, a parking space and depending on the plot some shoring set and then quickly pay 15k or more for it. You really have to be more specific there.

That means that the company car is not worth as much to someone compared to their own car (ownership). At least that's how it is for me.

Envious?? By the company car, I meant my car, a 5-series a little over 2 years old. It's really a nice car, but it can stay outside. I just wanted to say that if someone asks the question "is it possible," you have to give up some things when the budget is not unlimited. For me, that was, for example, the garage.
