House construction too expensive - Stop building?

Very few people have done it themselves here. I think this is due to the steep slope in our area. Or because the plots are so expensive that mostly academics live here.

I am looking forward to sitting in our living room next year with my husband and him saying: "See, I told you we could do it!" I hope so much!

You are doing a lot of it yourselves, so there is probably also some relevant experience in the family or among friends. They will surely give you some tips on how to keep the costs under control.

Everyone here outsources it, even if they are craftsmen. That’s why I assume that a professional has to handle the connection to a country road. But I could be wrong :)

Does your property border directly on the country road? That means there is no sidewalk or piece of municipal land in front, your fence ends at the country road?
You can do paving work yourself on your property. It’s hard physical work, so many have it done. But if you have the strength, you can save a lot of money doing it yourself.

Also, no one needs a fence at first.

There are definitely places where there is an obligation to enclose. At the latest, when the neighbor demands it. I would not do without it either with a small child. But anyone who has some strength and not two left hands can put up a chain-link fence.

No, but the driveway goes from the country road over the sidewalk onto our property. And the driveway is not my property :-)

I think a €2500 installment plus additional costs with ~€5000 household income already requires a very frugal, i.e. ascetic lifestyle.

Sorry to bring up the post again, but the majority of families in my circle of friends have less than €2000 per month available after deducting heating rent (most in my circle of friends work in traditional apprenticeships). Especially when you are new to the forum, you should always keep in mind that here almost only high earners gather, who sometimes cannot even imagine how much money the average family in Germany manages with.
