......my two cents on DIY work. Since we were quite limited regarding DIY work (real estate developer), a few things were doable, which I don't think I would have handed over to a craftsman. On the one hand, no one would have executed it according to my standards because the working hours would have been exorbitantly high.
We had about 120m² of 15mm oak solid wood planks installed. I coated all the planks on my knees myself with a first coat of colored oil and a cloth. Afterwards, I sealed them with hard wax oil. I invested about 40-50 hours here, and it still looks great after 6 years.
For the drywall roofing, I was able to take that trade out. Through contacts, I then found someone who refined the surface to Q3-Q4 quality. I always had to tell the poor guy that I pay by working hours and not by m², and I don’t regret a cent.
I laid the teak terrace myself. The contractor cost was around 12-15K. Material about 4-5K. About 50-60 hours all screwed hidden. Sure, I don’t get a good hourly wage, but the result convinces...
