It's fine....in our kitchen we sit every day for the three meals. The living room is not too full. The staircase in the hallway is just right.

I'll join in too

We are also the Gallier faction and our house is "old-fashioned" – at least that was the reaction every time a new trade came in here or regularly during planning with the architect. We don't care, because we like it

1) Floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere: For us also rather a deal-breaker, in the architect’s first plan we also had that almost everywhere. Although we live in the middle of the forest and really no one looks in, we now only have one large floor-to-ceiling element in the living room, all other windows have sills. At the bottom 1.20 m in the WC and hallway, 0.90 m in the kitchen and living room and the same in the granny flat.

2) Open kitchen/dining/living area: We have been living in the old house with the open kitchen-living area for over 12 years and I will be so happy when we move simply because then I can prepare things without the animals running around in between. The kitchen-living area is a must here, because the main living really takes place in the kitchen. You sit comfortably with visitors in the kitchen to talk and, of course, to eat with the family. We only use the big table in the living room for family celebrations or holidays when guests come.

That’s why in the new house the pantry is right next to the kitchen with an exit towards the garden/carport/terrace

3) Balconies: hmm no idea nobody here has one anyway ^^ we don’t either, we have a garden ^^
4) Dressing room: By definition we also have one in the plan but it’s rather planned as an office with an extra wardrobe. It’s somewhat a buffer to the children's room and we preferred to separate the area rather than having a huge bedroom. That way my husband can still play on the PC in the evening if needed and I can already watch TV or sleep.

5) Bathrooms: We have one bathroom upstairs for everyone, that’s how we grew up (just like generations before us), we have lived without problems so far and I don’t know why I’d need a second one. Downstairs there is still the WC, which was important to us so that not all visitors always have to go to our bathroom and so that when the upstairs is occupied you can go somewhere else.

I think that’s everything

No, it doesn’t make sense, unless there is dog and cat goulash... or the duck is being fed and fattened in the (what’s it called in modern German) Allraum?!

I think Karsten agrees with me on that, he already has a cat, now only the dog is missing

Well, they are badly behaved! Both dog and cat are allowed in my kitchen, but they are nowhere allowed to run around or even sniff at the food.
