Explanation of the hype

Is a wall being introduced there or how does the depth come about?

There are also Ikea hacks on Pinterest, for example, to create something like that afterwards. Certainly not as pretty and elegant. Just have a look there under Window Seats, Fenstersitz etc.

I would also like to have such a place, but it didn't fit. It has to be a house wall on our side, where not everyone can look in, and there aren't many of those.

For us, it is a window measuring 170cm x 170cm at the end of the hallway on the upper floor facing west. Since the hallway itself is 250cm wide, the remaining wall area is simply built out with drywall to create a reveal depth of 60cm. The inner sides of the reveal are then lined with 3cm thick oak boards. The window seat is finished.
