I think that is great, I have it myself too. But it’s not a hype: in the 70s there were already many architects who built it like that. My parents have it as well and....
.... most terraced houses dispense with a useless piece of hallway and leave the area open to the dining table.

I think the example is totally stupid. The stairs start in the very corner of the house. Presumably, the TV is hanging on the stair wall, meaning everyone who wants to go up walks through the picture, the noises go directly upstairs, etc.

I find it terrible! Everyone who visits the children sees everything and everyone at all times.

Yes, opinions are that different.
