The roof would be insulated up to the attic. Basically, from the attic to the roof peak, no thermal insulation is installed. The roof staircase is of course thermally insulated.

If you insulate up to the attic instead of just the upper floor ceiling, the heated space will of course increase and the transmission surface will become larger. So clarify with the planner whether this has any impact on, for example, the Energy Saving Ordinance or KfW classifications. If it is only to be used as a storage room, depending on what is to be stored, you can of course consider whether it should be thermally insulated. Also ask your planner about OSB boards. The use of OSB boards is not entirely uncritical with regard to moisture buildup and condensation problems...

Insulation alone is not enough; the vapor barrier is crucial. It must be a continuous enclosure; in the sketch above, it runs along the ceiling of the upper floor.

If you can, have it extended up to the attic so that

[*]when finishing the upper floor, it runs up to the gable
    or
[*]for later finishing, the foil can be connected.

This cannot be done afterwards and can only be solved with great effort.

Hello,

if you insulate the attic up to the ridge, you should also consider that you then create a hermetically sealed room that is no longer ventilated by the otherwise usual ventilation bricks.

In our house, we also planned to insulate the roof up to the ridge in addition to the insulated attic ceiling - however, we were advised against it several times.

If an insulated attic is not regularly ventilated (or connected to the controlled living space ventilation) can condensation and then mold form quickly there.

We decided against the insulation but ordered the floor to be immediately "walkable."

Regards,

Dirk

Doc:Schnaggls: That's EXACTLY how we approached it.

Great. That's probably how we will do it as well. Thanks for the numerous answers!
