Hello.
The creative break did good and there were opportunities to discuss with the site manager (and also the structural engineer), among others. And also with the family. Basically, we all agree that the design is definitely going in the direction we want. The concept is set and many things like wall thickness or moving the wall here and there a bit – all of that works & we will work out the details for each trade in the coming weeks. Construction is supposed to start in May – so things will get busy in the barn soon!:)
I have listed the points that came to my mind. At first glance, they seem like a lot, but in my opinion, they are not that significant content-wise – mostly a lot of text. Mostly I’m just asking "for an opinion" – everyone is welcome to participate. Of course, if you, dear , still want to move or even design something here, then we’re happy about that. As an "extra" I can post something here – but everything is optional & nothing is mandatory – I don’t want to be a burden on anyone! :)
I divided this into two posts, what is currently moving me/us. Starting with the ground floor:

(1) Entrance: currently you stand directly in front of the barn outdoors. Would it be conceivable to recess the entrance a bit? It would also be possible to build a roof over the barn entrance, but primarily I would like to move it so as not to interfere further with the barn’s look (note: even introducing a dormer will require some convincing within the family). Of course, the entrance to the open space and the guest WC entrance have to be moved inside. But the front door probably won’t be double doors and it might not necessarily have to be towards the open space.
Would moving it work?
(2) Bathroom: bathtub, toilet, etc. are more placeholders and I’m not expecting a finished design for the bathroom. :-) But how wide is the shower (walk-in or not) and can the toilet be positioned further away from the sink? Possibly rotate the bathtub – then the bathroom would have to be slightly wider at the expense of the bedroom or hallway. We don’t need a floor-to-ceiling privacy screen – but a bit more covered is preferred by the lady of the house. ;-)
Is a slightly different bathroom layout conceivable in a quick way?
(3) Pantry: this is more of a technical thing – but I want to keep you informed. To build the ceiling we have to lay a beam between the two pillars, among other things. That interferes with the stairs. Therefore, we’re building a second pillar in front: no problem at all. Also, at the top of the plan the wall has to be wider (at least 20-24.5 cm), as beams also rest there. I marked everything in yellow. The pantry will probably become wider, I think.
(4) Fireplace: this is currently the sticking point. Namely, its location. Although we are also flexible regarding its position and the exhaust, since the horizontal pipe may only be 2-2.5m max long (in relation to what is probably a 10-12m high chimney). That doesn’t restrict us too much in the fireplace’s location. The fireplace can also be long and, for example, offer seating right next to it (or space to place wood, etc.). Currently, the exhaust works in relation to the rooms upstairs, too (see another drawing where I inserted it). The only thing I find not ideal is the position directly next to the kitchen. It feels strange to have a warm fireplace behind you while cooking at the island – or to place a fireplace close to the fridge. How the fireplace itself should look – corner fireplace, elongated, doesn’t matter for now...
I’m mainly asking about the "spatial feeling" and we are unsure about it. On one hand, we really like the structure of the open space. The areas are clearly defined. On the other hand, it would be nice to see the fireplace not only in the chill-out area – which in a way also has a "connecting" effect.
Do any alternative positions occur to us – maybe a middle ground?
