Dear forum,
a brief update from my side: the barn renovation is progressing - at a fast pace.
Yesterday we sold the old stone floor of the barn and the stones will be removed the day after tomorrow. Photos will follow! Next, the barn will be emptied because on April 1st - no joke ;) - we will begin laying the foundation. Among other things, this has to do with the fact that we are moving the exterior wall inward and have to redo the roof to be renovated. I had explained this earlier. However, laying the foundation also logically means that we have to absolutely finalize the inner walls, and soon. And here a problem has emerged that I am now puzzling over:
Unfortunately, on the south side we cannot go as wide as originally thought. Due to the construction of a staircase in another part of the barn, the floor plan has shrunk. On the south side, we can only go 1m to the right of the wall (see drawing). With the previous design, we are thus about 80cm too wide at 1.80m.
Now I wonder whether
(a) it is possible to simply make each of the rooms (bedroom, bathroom, hallway, living room) smaller and shift them to the left? Maybe then the bathtub needs to be removed? Or
(b) as my father-in-law says, the guest toilet must be placed inside from the south side and therefore will have no window?
I would like to keep the guest toilet with a window, but this is not the top priority. But right now I really don’t know which idea I should pursue further. Maybe someone has a gut feeling about what the right way might be or whether approach A is even feasible and doesn’t become too fragmented.
(A) Concept "Everything smaller - and a bit narrower"
(B) Concept "Toilet without window"
I know that neither idea includes the correct staircase and they are basically very rough. Especially concept B is almost unworthy of posting here as it is a first step. And I know it’s annoying to have to tackle the floor plan issue again… but maybe someone has some input on this. And I promised to keep you updated on the status.
