I have in the First 4 double casement windows as a transom with electric opening. I opened them occasionally at the very beginning. In the last 10 years, never opened.

For you, as the only opening, that is probably quite usable if you can electrically open the transom above the stairs. Therefore, I recommend a larger double casement window.

Similarly, in the children's rooms, 1 wide window is better than two narrow ones.

Take advantage of the replacement in the attic structure. A distance between two rafters makes sense in my opinion. How big is the rafter spacing? Are there double casement windows with a suitable width?

Does the attic structure need to be reinforced? What does the structural engineer say?

My double casement window is 1.1 m wide and 1.2 m high

We can reposition the rafters, but the current layout already fits well (and if we go wider, we can also interrupt the rafters). The current spacing is roughly 90cm and a double casement window with 80cm would fit well. However, 2x80cm side by side seems gigantic to me for a children's room. I tend more to use a single, wide window for the rooms. Can I use your 1.1m / 1.2m measurements as a reference for the rooms as a first step? The roof pitch is about 40 degrees...

Hello , if you like, you can gladly give me a tip regarding the kitchen. I am just getting familiar with this here, but are there any basics I need to consider or that come to your mind? What I know is the 1.2m distance between island and row needed to open the drawers. I am not that familiar with anything else – I simply turned the cooking island towards the window for aesthetic reasons. If you have time and interest, you’re welcome to write something about it...

The construction is progressing in large steps. Attached are some photos - as I said, I would get back to you again. Unfortunately, there won’t be regular "reports," as there simply isn’t enough time...

Once again, a huge thanks, especially to ypg for her great input. Even though everything turned out differently than proposed, I wouldn’t want to miss her wonderfully alternative suggestion. Now it is what it is & we are curious to see how it develops. :)

Are the dark interior images from the other side of the house or from before the roof covering?

Good point - that is misleading. There are 2-3 days between the photos. They are before the covering of the roof.
