You don’t need a light well, you don’t need an expensive basement apartment, if you have a nice guest room or office on the ground floor or upper floor. Or the possibility to keep the living room closed. Men’s gatherings can have sports in the closed living room while the woman makes herself comfortable on the sofa in the guest room. Conversely, tea parties and Thermomix evenings can be held in the kitchen-living area while the husband stays in the living room, office/guest room, or with one of the children. I take the opportunity to do some extensive online clothes shopping, my husband takes the opportunity to visit others. In many families, the guest room is the coziest room if you keep it tidy.

Do it however you want, but I noticed months ago that you’ve kind of gotten tangled up: first like this, then like that, then the stairs, then the pantry... You’re not by any chance a Cancer? Everywhere you start, you find no solution and prepare a new construction site for yourself because you are indecisive and... forgive me... overwhelmed with the old one. …Wait and see what the report says and want to build contrary to the recommendation. Then you shouldn’t have waited [emoji848]

Wasn’t there something about filling up 1.50 meters? Tomorrow you decide differently because building higher than the building ground itself means stairs to the garden, stairs into the house...

What does the room program look like: how much area can/must be on the upper floor, how much area on the ground floor? Office/guest is planned on the ground floor as far as I remember.

There are people who postpone things they don’t want to face. Are you sure you want to build? Or not, or something like that? [emoji848]

Since I am the one who mentioned the light well: I fully agree with you. If you have the guest room above ground, I would always prefer that! My point was only that IF such a room had to be placed in the basement and you intend to spend time there during the day, a light shaft is very likely insufficient for residential purposes, whereas a light well can significantly improve the living quality - and that is the case for us. So no contradiction, just an addition [emoji6]

Yes, of course. Basically, light wells are great. From my childhood days, I remember one that was so large it allowed barrier-free access to the garden on the ground floor. And that from a room with a panoramic window. Great atmosphere.
But to have this one retreat possibility in a basement, and only for that reason to justify the basement, I think is wrongly conceived.
