That's exactly where the fallacy lies: but no ... THEY don’t fool me ... I know them from the village pub, and some even from the sandbox. Tradition is when your grandpa didn't notice it either

Construction workers are Smurfs. Angel wings would also get in the way under the overalls.

This is how they are among each other, the city dwellers. They lie, cheat, steal entire motorhomes from each other, but always portray themselves as the smart ones because they are from the city. In the countryside, where a construction contract is sealed with a handshake, you don't need architects. Of course, mistakes happen on the construction site sometimes, but a phone call and the botched drywall ceiling was taken out and redone. Karsten

Something like that

I would almost sign off on the last sentence, although of course one must inform oneself and get comparative offers.
But it still holds true, agreed is agreed.
Anything else would also be very damaging to business here in the countryside.

That's nonsense. How are you supposed to know if the price per trade is realistic or not? It has nothing to do with a lack of trust, but simply with creating transparency. you also looked at more than one contractor before you built, right? There are still many reasons why you should spend a little more time considering who you undertake the adventure of building a house with.

I wouldn't rely on the fact that people know each other in the village and that they can't afford sloppiness. All offers from companies from our village or municipality, whether demolition or retaining wall/foundation slab/earthworks, were much more expensive than those from other companies, incomplete, etc. That's how we're building at the marketplace, and no company from the local area is involved in the construction.

That's a completely different matter. As I said above, you obviously have to compare and also get other offers. Basically, however, I prefer to have someone whose work I know, rather than a complete stranger.
