If I survive the next 30 years, then the million was worth it to me...

You are absolutely right. However, he has already expressed critical opinions about this and that after days and weeks. A piece of furniture like that is supposed to last 10, 20, 30 years.

We also have one or two IKEA pieces of furniture, it’s not like we don’t know it. In the long run, IKEA doesn’t make sense. Only, as already mentioned, as throwaway-and-rebuy furniture. You do that once for the student apartment or the first apartment, but for a house, it also makes no economic or long-term sense.

Of course, everyone can buy what they want; I just want to warn against buying everything cheap at first. After 5 years you start again to buy everything new.

There's also something to be said for being able to change something for a little money from time to time...

Okay, then let's maybe agree on this: whoever buys cheap buys (at least) twice.

I actually see it that way too, except that IKEA doesn't have to be cheap, but rather affordable. Pax in the basement, guest room, or dressing room, I personally do not find qualitatively cheap at all and quite solid. But there is definitely also cheap stuff at IKEA, no question. In the (open) kitchen, for example, what IKEA offers is not enough for ME; that would be something from LEICHT. However, several (3) kitchen-specialized carpenters consulted beforehand mentioned on their own in conversation that the IKEA fittings are from Blum and do not fall short in quality compared to common mid-range kitchens. And honestly, they can probably assess that better than someone from outside the field due to over 20 years of professional experience.

The "buy something new every five years" can also be seen positively. Do you really want to see the same furniture for 10 years or longer? I rather not! Exception: kitchen, but that was no longer the topic once the discussion expanded to furniture in general.

Phew, what depths of nosey behavior... the pinnacle was the sentence that since this is a new build forum, one could surely assume that decent furniture is bought here. At least that's how I heard it. I'm glad not to have such neighbors; our old Twingo wouldn’t even be allowed in the neighborhood, and if it’s not the Weber gas grill but a Landmann tripod on the terrace, which of course must be pure terrazzo, you’d get a serious warning from the block warden.
By the way, dear luxury fetishists, please ask yourselves whether your fancy stuff is paid for or bought on credit,
Our Twingo, our old Golf, our cheap kitchen, yes, almost the whole house is paid for except for 50k. Better simple, but I could afford it that way. Karsten
