:p

Exactly, that's how it's often seen. But our patio door is really right next to the kitchen island. You do have to walk around it, that's true. And the kitchen itself is quite small with its 9 m². Between the two kitchen rows or between the row and the island you would hardly want to have a door open often, because then you partly lose access to cabinets and work surfaces. Those were our considerations. But - yes, I understand that many would have done it differently.

Exactly, you’re never really safe from that.

Hello dear house-building friends :),

an update from our almost finished little house (I guess you are never really finished ;)), where we have now been living for 2 weeks. Most of the photos were taken before moving in - now you can hardly see the beautiful floors anymore, it’s still quite messy :p. We are very satisfied; of course, you always notice little things here and there, for example, that the distance between the wall and the door in the utility room at 65 cm is a bit too tight when a freezer with a 7 cm protruding handle is supposed to stand there... well, these are all solvable problems. We feel very comfortable! Above all, the underfloor heating and the real wood floor are so nice, the new kitchen is ergonomically great, we have so much light and sun... And I’m a little proud to be able to say that we kept our tight budget despite high-quality materials in the interior finish (tiles, parquet). The house cost us (WITHOUT pile foundation and ancillary building costs like surveying, development, etc., but including exterior shading) €224,000. Without our own work and self-contracting, this certainly wouldn’t have been possible! Among other things, we did the sanitary installations ourselves (my father-in-law), underfloor heating, installation of window sills and doors. That way, we still have a little left from the loan, which, with the endless list (dismantling the construction road, filling, entrance platform, terrace, garden design, built-in furniture, insect protection...) will be gone faster than we can blink.

Thanks again to all of you for the valuable input :). Maybe I’ll show photos of the furnished house sometime - if there aren’t boxes blocking everywhere anymore ;).

Best regards

Shall we look at the sewing area in the third-to-last picture (171216)?

indeed not ;). The "gallery" doesn't have a direct use yet - at the moment it is a storage room, but it is supposed to become a reading/gaming corner later. My sewing/desk is planned in the dressing room (picture 4). Imagine a built-in wardrobe along the entire length of the room on the left and a desk on the right. It looks super narrow for that, but it fits (the wide-angle photo is a bit deceptive here).

Thanks :)

What do you have under the stairs? It looks like you don't use the space there, but have simply closed it off.
