Hello everyone,

I still owe you quite a bit of information. After our last appointment with the architect, things moved rapidly. We were very satisfied with the floor plans, bought the plot of land, and then it all started. Since we are organizing all the trades ourselves, we have been quite busy. So busy that I simply forgot about the forum .

I want to apologize to everyone who posted feedback here for that. Especially to . ops:

Here are the promised floor plans.

What has happened since then?:

We started building in December and currently the shell is finished, the roof is watertight, and the windows will be installed at the end of the week.

Some people didn’t like the floor plan as it was. That is completely fine.

We discussed all the feedback from the thread in the family council and then tasked the architect with it. We are very happy with the result. Since my wife saw the result live for the first time, she can hardly wait to move in.

- We really like the open living/dining area and feel it suits us well. The path through the living room to get to the kitchen is okay for us.

- The chimney was moved slightly.

- We had the stairs rotated as suggested here. The suggestion was worth its weight in gold and looks extremely good! This way you enter the hallway upstairs straight. The hallway upstairs is almost a bit too big but looks great.

- There will be a small storage room under the stairs.

- The storage closet upstairs is now a bit bigger and more usable.

- The children’s rooms are small, yes, but have a south-facing side, the nicest view, no sloping ceilings, and will be sufficient.

The dormers make for a very large attic. We are converting it into a small lounge (sofa, TV). It will serve as:

- Hobby room for dad (gaming PC, VR games, retro games), sometimes having a beer with friends

- Retreat for the kids when they have friends over and don’t want to occupy the living room. This somewhat compensates for the smaller children’s rooms. Up there you can sit with 5 or 6 friends. Even a bigger children’s room would be cramped for that.

In the main roof area (45°), you can stand 1.80m tall on a width of 2.5m. Where the dormers are, the width is over 4m.

With the budget, we are currently about on plan. The roof was more expensive than planned, the shell is on plan, and roof truss + windows a bit cheaper.

If you’re interested, I’ll keep you updated (if I find time to post ^^) But at least the floor plan question can be considered closed now, I owed you that (morally).

Best regards!

How is the staircase to the upper floor planned? And maybe separate a small niche upstairs and install a mini toilet? Bringing up cold water and wastewater is not that complicated after all

The stairs are stacked on top of each other from the ground floor to the attic. Yes, a WC would be an option (I had already considered that), but it is not really feasible on the north side ([Grundriss Planunten]). On the top side ([Planoben]) the drainage would have to run through the bedrooms, which is also very unattractive. I’d say: 3m to the stairs, and 3m from the stairs to the WC on the upper floor is reasonable in my opinion. But thanks for your input!

I do have one question that fits with the floor plan planning since we want to start with the electrical work soon. Sockets and network/TV are planned so far. I'm still thinking about the lighting. Especially the living/dining area is still giving me trouble.

Do you maybe have any ideas? I was thinking of a lamp in the center of the living room, one on the wall by the balcony doors (opposite the chimney), and one above the dining table. But somehow I’m not quite satisfied with that yet.
