We also have the kitchen in the east. I would do it differently now: in the mornings we are usually rushed, and during the week there is no joint breakfast anyway. In the evenings it gets cozy in the kitchen and cooking happens. Also after work, rather preserving or tinkering in the kitchen. Therefore, a bit more daylight in the kitchen in the afternoon would be desirable. Therefore, next time I would put the kitchen in the west. And here at your place, quite a few things could actually relax.

Thank you, we are mostly satisfied as well. But the points mentioned do have their justification.

- possibly swap the kitchen and living room
- storage room upstairs is not optimal or the closet situation needs to be examined more closely
- the staircase upstairs is not perfect yet – you walk directly towards the slanted wall. How much that would bother us or if it wouldn’t be a problem is hard for us to estimate

Apart from these criticisms, we are already very satisfied with it. The access to the kitchen through the living room is fine for us. The issue with the staircase could actually be resolved with rounded walls.

Yes, we will look at it again and weigh it up. However, my wife has already fallen very much in love with the kitchen/living room area and doesn’t see the staircase as an issue. The architect doesn’t see it as so critical either. Maybe I am imagining it to be “worse” than it is?

Regarding the storage room upstairs: couldn’t the wardrobes be placed in the 2m area? The area in front of it would then be under 2m. You would have to calculate again whether you could still stand there with a knee wall at 1m and a 45° roof pitch.

I really like the suggestion to swap the two areas! Thanks for that.

One more detailed solution for the two children's rooms on the right side of the plan: here I would divide the partition wall in between so that (built-in) wardrobes can fit there, which are allowed to take up the full height. This way, this wall can be better used as a placement area. Something like an integrated built-in wardrobe in US houses

The cabinet door must open, you may need to use a stool to reach the upper shelves, it will be tight.

Cool! Thanks. I really like the idea of hiding the wardrobes in the niche. But I haven't gained any space with that, have I? And the niche would have to be designed so that "standard" wardrobes fit flush, or you could only use "custom-made" ones if no standard sizes are possible. But we'll definitely take a closer look at that in peace!

Here you might be able to work without doors and really use the space as a "wardrobe". If you use doors, you could fit them in. So cut off the corner that bothers and screw it to the wardrobe so that it looks proper when the door is closed. But yes, I agree with you. It's a tight fit. Let's see, maybe we'll build the room out of cardboard to test it.

Let's put it this way: apparently, so much was tried out with the staircase that something went wrong. Everything could be straightened out by moving the staircase. The one to the attic could take the stairwell. The storage room on the upper floor would become larger and could also serve as a closet space. You wouldn’t have the slanted corner anymore. The logic of going into a dining room to then get to the living room exists rather than the other way around. Take a look at the argument from : you will certainly get a lot of visits from the kids’ friends and have constant foot traffic in the evening, even if you want it to be cozy.
