yes, that was the idea. To eliminate the roof slope in the rooms (especially on the south side) as much as possible.

Our builder said a third gable is much more expensive than such a dormer. That's why we did it like that with the architect.

Monstrous in the sense of ugly or in the sense of monstrously expensive? oops:

Mmh, yes, that’s true. Unfortunately, I just can’t come to terms with the meter. It’s somehow neither fish nor fowl – especially when I can choose freely. The use of the apex is also important here. The OP is even building a staircase to it, so there should be some use for it. So far, the apex looks like this for me with a 1m knee wall, just to give an impression: Here I capped at 70cm. The door is 2.10m high. So real standing height is only on a strip about 1m wide under the ridge. If the roof were 30cm higher, it would already make things considerably more comfortable, I think.

I thought expensive. But if it's a bargain according to the builder ...

Mhm, but a higher knee wall can't be combined with the dormers, right? Yes, the room upstairs is really limited. That's a 45° pitch, isn't it? What ceiling heights are you working with? Would a section drawing be helpful to you? In the area of the dormers, the usable space (up to 70cm) should become wider, shouldn't it?

Just ask the architect!
He has to change the staircase anyway.

I will do that as well

here my wife has a say. What we want to change about the stairs, or if we will change the stairs in the end, or if we make the wall to the bathroom upstairs rounded or more sharply sloped is not decided yet. We will definitely take these ideas back to the architect. But I have to convince not only myself but also my wife... and most will surely know that "more practical" as an argument does not always work ^^

Regarding the section drawing: Here the knee wall is still at 75cm. If we take it at 1m (as we would like) there is a small problem with the dormer windows.

- The dormer windows would also be raised
- in order for the window sill to have a normal length, the dormer windows have to rest on the roof. So the window sill would be somewhere at 1.35m, which would be quite high.

Putting the windows on the first beam would be possible but then the window sills would have to be longer to extend beyond the roof. What do you think about that? I hope you understand what I want to say with my layman’s knowledge. ^^
