I have written this several times. Online, there is parquet from Meister in 2nd choice at a top price. I have nearly 200 sqm here, absolutely TOP. Waste is almost zero or even truly zero if you simply place the few boards that might appear a bit redder or similar under the kitchen or elsewhere. All this for under 30..-/sqm incl. delivery.

Hmm, but then you put 10k€ on the virtual table and don't really know what you are getting or how bad it really is? Or why doesn't every second choice then buy it?

You can also go there in person or have test boards sent to you, it's no different with a first-choice purchase either. 10k€??? Are you expanding your city hall? I paid 25€/sqm including shipping plus original moldings + underlay from Meister at a good price. Why doesn't everyone do that? My guess is because people don't want to be second-choice people, because they fear something inferior and much more. Maybe you also don’t get all the desired models and colors. For us, that was my question with the quantities we needed. Virtually, there is nothing, or just as little as in the parquet store. They also order your goods somewhere and deliver them to the construction site. But I absolutely don't want to preach to anyone, I would always do it that way again. The same thing exists, for example, from Haro.

Don't worry, I am unmissionable... but always open to new things. I actually only ask the presumably typical questions of a complete second-choice clueless person... What are some typical mistakes with second-choice boards?

I can only agree with Pagoni and have also had very good experiences with second choice. Back then, admittedly, Meister laminate in apartments (2x). If I hadn't known or had only paid 30% of the original price back then, I probably wouldn't have noticed the "second choice" as such :)

For the currently planned new build, I will also buy Meister B-grade parquet, so I don't want to missionize you either, so I don't possibly end up empty-handed ;)

Just check out, for example, the large auction house with four letters, search term "Meister B-Ware" or Haro or whatever...

But here is an exemplary excerpt from the dealer's description:

"Explanation SF goods / B goods:
This is original Meister parquet, new and unused, as well as originally packaged. However, the goods are offered as B-grade with slight cosmetic defects. This means that there may be planks with surface defects, e.g. slight pressure marks, color differences, knot holes.

After the auction ends, we will gladly assist you with useful tips, telling you how to mask these "defects" during installation.

We will also tell you, depending on the floor, how many sqm you need to order as additional waste. We want to emphasize that these "defects" do not occur on every board.

There are certain guidelines and pictures showing how a floor should come from production. If there are only minimal deviations, such as an extra knot hole or the wood grain is different from what is advertised in the catalog, it is also sorted into B-grade goods, although these are actually not defects themselves. These "violated sorting criteria" are only noticed by us as professionals upon a second look.

These make up the majority of this goods. BUT: Technically, the planks are ALWAYS flawless. The click connection and the technical processing are the same as with regular A-grade goods. Also the dimensional accuracy!

The quality itself is really top. Since it is B-grade, Meister, like other well-known manufacturers, pack this goods in neutral white packaging."

You take about 5-7% more quantity and then you basically have first choice.
Technically, they are all first choice and flawless. With second choice, for example, we sometimes have a board here that has a noticeably darker tone or once one that has a slight reddish tint. Especially, there are more or larger knots, but all of them are planed and sanded flat at the factory.
If you had asked me, I would say that's all normal.
If the contractor hadn't been such a lazy fool, you would see exactly zero; in that case, this or that board would be lying in the utility room, under the bed or wardrobe, or I simply wouldn't have laid a few boards, while you always have covered/furnished areas anyway.
If in doubt, you can also go and have a look, which I didn't do. Everything worked perfectly.
Often there are lingering doubts and you only build once etc., I don't have that.
I can warmly recommend it, the result is top notch!
