Tiles or parquet

No vinyl - especially not with children.
Plasticizers are suspected to be responsible for chalky teeth. Many people don't want any plastic near food anymore. Toys are checked for harmful substances - because that stuff also goes into the mouth. Here, plastic is laid on the floor - which is not food-safe, does not have to meet requirements such as being saliva-resistant, etc. Children spend their first years primarily on the floor. Drooly hands on vinyl, hands in the mouth, etc.

And no, I am not an eco-helicopter mom.

I find it really surprising that vinyl is not completely promoted here. I actually thought that 90% of builders, especially in the upper bedrooms, install vinyl. Very interesting,

Quick question: Where did you buy your floors, or where do you buy your floors? Do you go to a specialized wood store or to a hardware store like Bauhaus?

Yes exactly, we expected the landlord to keep our floor clean. What did you think, please? It's about sanding and sealing! I see that as the landlord's responsibility if the floor is rented along with the apartment. Especially if this is already pointed out when moving in! Later, we didn't ask anymore because we didn't want to completely empty our living room.

I believe this question comes up here more often?

We have parquet almost everywhere, that was clear to us from the beginning, nothing else was an option for us in the living area. Tiles are way too uncomfortable and plastic was never considered.

We have tiles in the bathrooms and also in the kitchen. In our old rental apartment, we had parquet in the kitchen and that was a bit too sensitive for us regarding water stains. Because of that, we have a transition in the living area that was implemented very well.

In the master bedroom and walk-in closet room, we laid carpet. I had to convince my wife a bit and was only 90% convinced myself, but in hindsight that turned out to be an excellent idea. It is incredibly cozy and pleasant for the bedroom. (Carpet is also the only floor I voluntarily walk barefoot on, I even avoid that on parquet )

I don't find vinyl exciting either. I'll throw s liquid cork into the room, hoping that it's not too expensive.

Small notes from me: Parquet only forgives damage if the wear layer is thick enough. Otherwise, the carrier layer, which also consists only of particleboard, appears very quickly. That looks bad then. There is also chemistry in parquet (What do you think holds the layers together? With spit?) If then solid wood planks!

Tiles are also rather cool in winter in new buildings nowadays. With flow temperatures of 30° (and a body temperature of just under 37°) it can’t be any other way. The grout in tiles could pose a dirt problem.

Linoleum interests me a lot, but from what I find it is quite expensive (from 50 EUR/m²) and the patterns, even if they don’t all look like a gym or hospital, do not appeal to me at all. Does anyone here know a linoleum dealer/supplier who has more selection/cheaper?
