I am going to install parquet flooring throughout the entire house (except in the bathrooms). Natural material, robust, forgives dents and scratches, and always feels pleasantly warm. Also suitable for the kitchen.

I love parquet

In principle, I find parquet visually beautiful, but I see way too many disadvantages here..

Natural material --> That's true, of course! An idea for the living-dining area, but I wouldn't get parquet for the kitchen! I would really have concerns about water permeability there. Then of course "fading due to sunlight exposure" is a big issue with parquet.., forgives dents (Well, I wouldn't confirm that for the parquet in our rental apartment. It’s starting to look totally marked up). It feels great, that’s true.

Additionally, parquet requires a lot of maintenance and is expensive... I think only true wood lovers/parquet lovers would do themselves a favor with it. Then I totally understand it!

Parquet is significantly more robust and forgiving than vinyl. Parquet requires no maintenance at all. Water only causes problems if it stands for a long time; you have to wipe it away.

So, there is almost nothing more robust than oak parquet, only tiles come to mind!

We used click vinyl from Parador for the living room, stairs, upper floor hallway, as well as the bedroom and children's rooms. However, our house is not new either. We did not replace the existing tiles in the hallway, kitchen, and utility room.

In our previous living room, we had strip parquet. The floor was already 25 years old and was not maintained by the landlord. Accordingly, it unfortunately looked that way. We definitely did not want to have something like that again.

I would definitely choose a durable floor. With children, something always spills, and I don't want to be the spoil sport all the time or have to constantly tell the children what they are not allowed to do. Of course, we have rules too, but if someone walks into the living room from the terrace with shoes on and there happen to be some stones on them, it's not the end of the world.

We are in the same stage as the OP. We are planning tiles for the entire ground floor area because we don’t want to offer slippers to every visitor and clean up right after the two boys come in barefoot from the garden.

Upstairs with the children's rooms there will be vinyl. Even if someone here said sacrilege, sacrilege, etc., if it ever bothers us, the vinyl will come out. For the price difference, I can lay vinyl three times over before I reach the price of the parquet flooring.

One more vote for parquet.

Yes, our parquet (laid throughout the whole house except bathrooms, hallway, and study) looks accordingly after 8 years, 2 cats, and 2 children. In the raking light, you can see countless scratches. Where a lot of sun hits, it is partially faded.

Nevertheless, even today I would lay the same again without batting an eye. It is much more pleasant for the eye, the nose, and the foot than laminate or vinyl. Tiles, well, you have to like the cold. We are not really into that.

Care? Well, when mopping, we sometimes add some care product to the bucket. Otherwise, it is absolutely maintenance-free.

In the kitchen, it actually still looks almost the best.
