Actually wanted to say that mine unfortunately is also initially non-transparent (or outrageously expensive) when it comes to additional fittings. Fortunately, he then just let me go completely elsewhere for various things (painter & flooring, windows, stairs, doors I’m still looking at). The credit was each time quite fair, or I get a lot more for the same price or exactly what I want for much less.

So the 2.5mm layer costs around 30-40€. As soon as I go for the 3.00mm layer or higher, the parquet costs 50-60€.

The question I ask myself: Isn't a 2.5mm parquet totally sufficient for the children's room/bedroom? Or are these thin engineered parquets no good?

Honestly, I don’t see myself sanding the parquet upstairs every 5 years. Whether it’s solid wood parquet or engineered parquet – if I don’t sand them, don’t they wear out exactly the same? The advantage of a thicker wear layer is just that I can sand the parquet more often, right?

They are just as good. You can just sharpen them less often. You can think about how often you will actually do that..

Probably not often, if at all

That's why I ask myself whether it really has to be a solid wood parquet or parquet with an enormously thick wear layer for €60.00, or if I should just go for the cheaper parquet with a 2.5mm wear layer for €30.00.

Then I rather make sure that it is an EU import and not from somewhere in Asia. I look to see that the varnish or oil is of high quality and that the wood content is relatively high.

Is there any preferred type of wood that is "better" or "worse"? Or is it really just about the appearance here?

I quote myself. It not only affects how often you can sand it down.

We have just also looked at flooring for our single-family house. Tiles will be used in the hallway, wet rooms, and kitchen. All other rooms we plan with design flooring (PVC-free). We have 2 children and indeed, we are not the kind of people to cherish and maintain parquet floors. After viewing and judging by the feel, we like the design flooring in Schloss Oak from Meisterdesign.
