So I once researched and found vinyl flooring from 20 EUR/m². However, that was probably not the best. For 30 EUR/m², you can often get parquet, though certainly not the best either. You can get both even cheaper in super clearance sales, but then it is probably, first of all, not the best and second, discontinued, meaning restocks will likely not be possible soon. Really good parquet (thick wear layer or even solid wood) is surely more expensive than 50 EUR/m², but then it is really good and will probably last your lifetime, with or without maintenance. It just looks accordingly if you don’t take care of it, but some people like rugged chic.

The hardware store parquet is alright, they also carry higher quality parquet types that are sometimes on sale. Then you are looking at 35€/m2. Good vinyl also costs around 25-30 euros.

You have to oil the parquet once at the beginning and then actually not anymore. Mop twice a year and add some cleaner. Otherwise, no maintenance!

But well, then just take vinyl if you think so.

Regarding oiling, I absolutely agree with . Our parquet installer also looked at me strangely when I asked how often you should re-oil per year… However, we mop (damp) more frequently, or have it mopped. That doesn’t hurt, but usually vacuuming is enough.

Such a wooden floor can and should age and develop a patina, of course you have to like that. In my eyes, that is what truly defines such a floor. (Deswegen haben wir Massivholzdielen gewählt)

Also take a look at rubber - warm, hygienic, easy to care for, elastic like vinyl. But non-toxic. Linoleum as well.

Vinyl is just a fashionable name for a better PVC, since PVC has a bad reputation, hence "design floor".

Yes, and where does the "softness" come from? Well, from the plasticizers... cheers!
