So far we have completely plastered 2 rooms ourselves, patched and sanded twice, then wallpaper goes on. Both are children's rooms, so patterned wallpaper and the remaining walls have fine-structured woodchip lining paper, paint on top, in the end you don’t see anything there anymore. And since moving in I also haven’t gone along a wall with a flashlight looking for unevenness.
