Is the utility room sufficient as a storage room as well?

we had always planned for 160 sqm, but now we are only getting about 140. That’s enough. We don’t have a hobby that requires a lot of stuff, and what the child will do later can never be known in advance. So: if not everything important actually fits, (even more) will be decluttered. I am so glad that we are not getting a basement anymore, it only collects junk that you never need again anyway. I’m not a fan of too much stuff anyway (if my husband read this, he would poke fun at me because of my decoration boxes ). I would like big rooms where there is space to rest the eyes. I won’t get that, so I have to try to reduce the contents in smaller rooms. A storage room on every floor? Oh no, it will be stuffed with stuff so quickly – better not. We only have the utility room, the storage space under the stairs on the ground floor, and for "Dreckskram" the storage room at the garage. That has to be enough. For every new thing, old stuff has to go...

We have placed the utility room next to the stairs, so that the area under the stairs belongs to the utility room. This has created a lot of space. In total, almost 6 sqm. We have created a storage room between the children's rooms on the upper floor. In total around 7 sqm.

In addition, we have completely covered one wall in the office with cabinets. There is also a broom closet in the kitchen.

We also have a large utility room with 18 sqm, a pantry – which by the way is just as warm as the kitchen – small interior rooms simply heat up along with it. Our utility room also stays at at least 19 degrees without heating (but thanks to the appliances). A storage closet on the upper floor and very large wardrobes in the children's rooms. Oh yes, and a small built-in coat rack in the hallway. The attic is hardly usable. The workshop is in the outbuilding.

It's really tight even though we don't accumulate much stuff! On the other hand, you have to consider what the cost per sqm is and how much money you want to invest to potentially accumulate useless/worthless things! 4 sqm of storage space costs for example probably at least 4000, rather 6000 euros – that's quite a lot.

The way you write, I would advise you to plan for a pantry. We sacrificed 4.4m² of floor space for it and are very happy about it. The pantry has no underfloor heating and a window, which we open, for example, at Christmas to keep everything nicely cool. There is space for a freezer, a 1m heavy-duty shelf, a Pax cabinet, as well as beverage crates, all kinds of waste containers, and a small shelf – and yet I can work comfortably inside – you wouldn’t believe it. Additionally, a utility room on the upper floor and a technical room on the ground floor. But my husband will get his hobby room in the garage this year – as you can see, others have the same problem.
