*laugh* no, definitely not. The house cannot be compared to ours. A perfected architect’s villa. That’s a whole different league.

Hi,

18% of the total construction costs for the garden? Pretty silly figure, that would mean we would have had to invest about six figures in the garden as well. You'd have to cover the terraces with gold leaf to spend that kind of money.

We paved about 140 sqm with Hydropflaster from Rinn (Rinn Beton- und Naturstein GmbH & Co. KG) so not even something particularly cheap), about 50 sqm of terraces with 80*80 cm granite slabs, splash protection around the house, a masonry light well made of granite, lawn, a planted embankment facing the street, irrigation system for lawn and embankment, and a large BioHort garden shed at the end paid roughly 35k€. The plot is smaller though, "only" 650 sqm.

So you should be able to manage with 50k€ for everything. But only if you also hold back a bit on the materials. With paving costing 100€/sqm (material only, plus installation) it won’t work.

If I were you, I would try to get as much as possible finished.

If not everything, then definitely:

[*]Pave the driveway and path to the house. (otherwise you’ll be stuck in mud forever and in winter you drag the sludge into the house)
    [*]A terrace to sit on
    [*]Garden shed
[*]Have a lawn installed, and be sure to have the irrigation system installed already, it’s much cheaper beforehand than afterwards. If necessary, use turf, it’s a lot easier.
[*]Lay electrical cables and water pipes into the garden.

Beds, fire pits, any ponds and similar things can be done later.

Best regards,

Andreas

You simply fit into the target group if you search for glossiness on the internet. Premium customers are looking for premium offers. But this is not the first thread where this becomes clear.

I claim you could have built it €100,000 cheaper and would not have noticed it in the result.

I have no clear idea of what you can do with 50k, I spent 20k, but my plot is also very small. For the money, I initially set practically the same priorities as my predecessors: driveway (60 m²), splash protection strip around the house (46 m), entrance podium, terrace (30 m²), wall for retaining the slope (1 m high, 15 m long). Everything is made of dark granite for me; if there is money for it, I would do it again and again. From the remaining money, topsoil could still be delivered and spread, and then I planted the hedge myself.

Trees on the property are definitely a must-have at this size. For our [Handtuch], it had to be a slim shape, so we planted a columnar oak (Quercus robur Fastigiata) and a columnar beech – costing a reasonable size (for me from 3 m height) about 1,000 euros.

If you really have to set priorities: driveway, splash protection, a terrace, and everything to do with concrete should be done right away. Lighting and irrigation afterward. Fill up topsoil, plant a tree, and sow/lay lawn as well. I would wait with the rest of the planting and hedge. Let it sink in for a bit first.

That may well be. The more someone is interested in the topic or has a corresponding background, the easier it naturally is. But it’s also great that we can currently say for ourselves that what we have seen so far from the shell shows that at least with the ground floor layout and the size of the house, we have done everything right. We are happy with that.

We were told by a garden architect and a landscape gardener to take 1,000 euros per sqm of outdoor area as an estimate. You can only say exactly when you know how much lawn, perennials, walls, which coverings for terrace, what earthworks, own contribution, etc., fencing, etc. There is a considerable amount coming up here, and also a six-figure sum without pool, marble, and water features. However, almost no outdoor area here is without a wall. Nothing here is simple. With us, there will be a spray protection strip, terrace, walls, filling with topsoil this year. The courtyard will only be paved next year. It has not settled enough yet. (Had to fill over 1.2 m in front of the garage) That is the plan.
