Terraces on different levels or with planted raised beds (calf height) as dividers would also suit your house and budget. Use noble and natural materials: fine granite, slate, larch... and occasionally deviate from the structural requirements. For structural planting, it makes sense to sit on the sofa or stand at the kitchen island and then see where the eye wants to go or what is visible from the kitchen through the living room door: plant an eye-catcher there or place or set something else...

I first have to let 50,000 € sink in.

Just get it done, it should all be doable.

about the trees etc. The nice thing about the garden is that we also sometimes do it ourselves. we are constantly bustling around and doing something

I have seen gardens that are very beautiful but not high-end and that partly cost mid six-figure amounts. For example, google Terwiege Essen and take a look at the references.

Also, the 18% of the construction costs that are "typically" estimated for garden landscaping made me take action. That would be about €125,000 for us. The plot is also 1,085 m² in size.

I will call a local company later that, in my opinion, has great references on its website. However, there are no price indications for the reference projects. I’m very curious how it will turn out later.

My wife and I are basically in agreement so far. I will gladly post some pictures once we have put something down on paper.

We will talk to the garden landscaper and then decide whether it would be better to use a garden architect. The garden landscaper's website actually shows quite substantial planning documents. Other experiences would be helpful in this regard. Who has employed a garden architect, and where were boundaries crossed in this respect that pushed a garden landscaper beyond their limits upfront? I could imagine that something like this is of interest for streams – possibly also, as in our case, with uneven plot topology.

Oh, this is all wonderfully exciting.

Calling for 50,000 euros for the garden and then complaining about the ancillary cost billing of the old ETW

Fits

Those are luxury problems you have. I don't quite understand the post either. Seeking self-affirmation? Well, I am proud to say what I did all by myself in the garden.

Namely everything and not that it cost a lot and I had it done

Well, I wrote that I found several sources online that state very high costs. And since those can’t be managed, I just wanted to go into the conversations with the providers somewhat prepared. But I’m just doing that now anyway. I’ve received good tips here.

The neighbor two houses down also recently built. He’s sinking about €300,000 into the garden. But he also has several water features and more or less lays water hoses all across the garden. They’ve been working on it nonstop for more than two months now and there isn’t a trace of green to be seen yet.

That’s a problem for us. Neither of us are gardeners and we’re people with two left hands.

Like my parents, we probably won’t properly get the hang of it until we have a garden ourselves and then have to maintain it. That’s why for now we’re making it as low-maintenance as possible. It’ll work out.

With neighbors like that, you don’t want to be outdone in anything. I get it.
