I understand that there should be at least one day a week for leisure and family time. For those who get no benefit from working in the garden in terms of recreational value and who have no craftsmanship skills, they should have others do it; there are companies for that. One should know their own abilities. My daughter loves to help and is involved everywhere at two years old.

I am also a bit surprised that here, where there is always so much warning about DIY work because people tend to overestimate themselves, there is such a vehement insistence that you can easily do everything in the garden yourself. I wouldn’t feel like making a fence with a foundation etc. myself either?! I’d rather do the greenery myself. But I also understand everyone who just doesn’t feel like it. Then they just pay, so what. But it’s all been discussed already

Since we're on the topic of fences [emoji23]: is a double bar panel fence also suitable as fall protection on L-stones? If yes, can you do it yourself? Or are there fences that are better suited? Height should be at least 1.5m.

We placed our double rod panel fence (1.20m high) directly behind the L-shaped stones, the posts are directly adjacent to the L-shaped stones and the panels are screwed on from the outside and then sit over the L-stone. We could not screw them directly onto the L-stone. There are such post shoes for the fence posts, but these were wider than the top edge of the L-stones and I was also concerned that something might break off the stone when drilling into the L-stone. The posts for the L-stones are anyway half a meter longer than the panels and with that you can really concrete them in well, it holds rock solid.

Best regards
Sabine

I just wanted to say that even without much knowledge, you can simply do some (not all) tasks yourself (not must). I have to say that I enjoy many garden tasks more than, for example, ironing laundry or cleaning. Especially children have great fun helping out in the garden; that can be a lot of fun for everyone.

Best regards
Sabine

But that is really apples and oranges... If you misjudge DIY work in construction, that usually means a) The financing framework is not sufficient b) The construction stalls because the next trade has to wait for your completion c) You can’t move in because, for example, there are no floors cumulatively in any combination. DIY work in the garden at worst affects the appearance. You still live in the new home and have the construction site right outside your door. That really can’t be compared. Apart from that: earth auger, pour ready-mix concrete, align straight, wait, the fence is already standing. There are other things in the garden that I would have more respect for.
