However, it is unfortunate that a chimney is missing - at least it is not necessary when there is a heat pump in the house. This certainly saves additional costs, but it also blocks the possibility of connecting a wood stove, which I no longer want to do without.
I would have also very much liked to have a wood stove for the sake of coziness. I do enjoy reading decorating magazines, especially around Christmas, to decorate around a real fireplace... ah!
But we decided against it. With today’s insulation standards, I feared that having a wood stove would simply make the living room uncontrollably warm. I already notice this sometimes when I light a few candles.
My sister heats with a wood stove in her (by the standards back then) near-passive house. That may be nice if there are only two of them. But every year we are invited there for Christmas dinner, and as soon as 8 people sit around a table, it gets so disgustingly warm in that house, it is hardly bearable.
