In the heating load/consumption/energy calculation of the house, it is stated how much solar gain is calculated for each specific window, therefore shading in summer is also included, as no heating power is needed.
Why does it even get dirty for you? Ours only needs to be wiped out once a year with ash. The glass rinsing otherwise always keeps the glass clean automatically.
...looks like my expensive Schiedel chimney doesn’t do that so well ;-) I’ve read about that (glass rinsing), don’t know why it is like that. Does anyone else here who has a Schiedel know? I asked my wife to get bathroom rugs for the winter or rather, they are already there. But please don’t think of the light blue, green and red ones from the 80s.
I would say the energy input from the sun is greater than from the fireplace :) But I can't prove that with a formula. I quickly found nothing on Google regarding energy input from the sun. Only energy transmittance (g-value) of the windows... It would be interesting to see what theoretically should be faster: 16sqm pure glass area in the south at the favorable angle of incidence in autumn/winter vs. 3-4 kg firewood to heat 260m³ of air (with about 2.5-3 kg/l water contained) by 1°C. But how it is in practice, we are very satisfied. If there is too much heat from the sun, the blinds go down. And the fireplace can run for hours without creating a sauna environment. Heating only with the fireplace probably won't work (but maybe the fireplace does raise the room temperature more if it runs around the clock, we have not tested and do not plan to). Even if we could heat with the fireplace (temperature-wise), it would still not be economically attractive for us, since we don't get wood cheaply and gas is ultimately much cheaper.
This is purely an economic calculation for me. If electricity were cheaper now, the underfloor heating would run and maybe it’s also the ambition to see how far autarky (without or little grid consumption) can be achieved with photovoltaics, storage & e-car. Also, if it were -10 degrees outside now, the heating would probably already be running. As I said, let's see. Today was a good day. The storage is full, tomorrow it’s the car’s turn.
