I can totally understand that. Most likely, the "we should have" effect will kick in soon, at the latest when prices have risen even further in a few years. On the other hand, I also find it completely reasonable—not considering the house and financial situation in isolation—not to do it. I believe in this constellation there was simply no right or wrong. You don’t buy and probably only get more expensive offers. You buy and are financially at the limit, the wife has to work more than intended, etc.

Only in the rarest cases does one buy a house and leave it as it was taken over. The driveway to the garages would surely also need to be paved at some point.
