We involuntarily ended up with a hipped roof on our bungalow (thanks to the development plan). By now, we wouldn’t want to miss it. This makes the attic huge, and we’ve only used about half of it. Everything is stored there, from sun umbrellas to children’s clothes to seasonal decorations. I really need to tidy up up there. What I totally miss, though, is a proper staircase going up. For that, I would gladly sacrifice one of my storage rooms. I just need to soften my husband up a bit for that. It’s hard to say if your storage space will be enough. I’d consider it too small. Just the washing machine and dryer take up an incredible amount of space next to the technical equipment. If you add a photovoltaic system, a bit of wall space will be taken up by the inverter. Space for a shelf or cabinet is tight. About the children’s rooms: 14 sqm are great, but given your tight space, you should consider shaving off 1 or 2 sqm of that. Our two kids live just fine in their 11 and 12 sqm rooms. I just have to rearrange creatively from time to time, depending on how they play. But it’s sufficient for them. And with the older one (8 years old), the flood of toys is slowly decreasing, and he effectively only needs a closet, bed, and table. The rest is anyway clogged with dirty laundry and all sorts of stuff, making it unusable. The 4-year-old daughter has her own rolling container with craft supplies that is maneuvered to the dining table when in use. That way, one hand is free for a generous dining area again. Then about the terrace: I think I read that it’s supposed to face north? Think that over carefully. There’s nothing better than being able to enjoy some sun outside in the evening. It’s also no problem if you place the terrace next to the driveway. That shouldn’t be too much of a disturbance now. I don’t know what your budget is, but it might make sense to convert part (or all) of the attic and plan in a proper staircase. That way, grandma and the study can find space upstairs, and you’ll enormously ease the situation downstairs.
