My main use of the attic is really for drying laundry.. No matter if it’s storming, snowing, raining, freezing, or the sun is blazing.. the laundry hangs there obediently and dries wonderfully on its own, without being in the way. I go up there regularly and appreciate the comfortable staircase. We also have a lot of tools up there and need to access them again and again. Our staircase up requires a space of W 1.03 x L 2.82 meters. That’s economical and still comfortable. The cost from the local carpenter including installation was 3000,- EUR. If it might be an option for you , then I see such a staircase in the entrance hallway. Here’s our situation.. There is an insulated steel door to the attic. For headroom when going up we also installed a roof window. That provides quite a few centimeters at the critical point..A fixed staircase was also a topic of discussion for us yesterday, but I also find it unnecessary to have a staircase (in the way) just for storage space. That might still change, but that's how I see it right now..
