If in doubt, I would position it so that the 80cm ridge is not visible from the street.

Hello Curly, we are currently building as well and also need a hip roof with a 28-degree pitch on our city villa.

Do you perhaps have a photo of your roof so that one can imagine it visually, as 28 degrees is a bit much for a city villa.

Best regards

I would let the ridge run in an east-west direction. Then you have more space on the south side if you want to retrofit solar thermal/photovoltaics later.

No, it definitely is not. But tell me, on which floor plan does the roof have to fit for you.

Regarding the original question (rest in peace): I have not seen in the wild yet that a ridge is simultaneously mandatory but left open as to how it should be oriented. Such a specification is more common to align house axes uniformly.

But that's exactly what we just experienced ourselves. The development plan stipulates "any" hip roof, gable roof, or flat roof. We submit a building application with a pyramid roof. The building authority demands "any," "arbitrarily small" ridge or alternatively the application for a deviation from the development plan (with extra fees). The orientation of the houses is left free within the building plots.

The external dimensions are 10.5m x 9.5m with a roof overhang of approx. 80cm all around. With us it was the same.. the development plan requires a gable or hip roof. Architect's statement: a tent roof is a type of hip roof Building authority: No, the hip roof requires a ridge. We have now chosen it with approx. one meter.
