Alright... Then maybe at least the south side used for photovoltaics at our place? Otherwise, with a gable roof, there wouldn't be any other roof... Google tells me it's more stable and resilient, but maybe that's not true either? :)

The south side is overrated, since the sun is highest in the south, other surfaces also get some sun at noon, unless you have 70° DS. If you have 25-30°, you hardly have any loss. The stability thing can, in my opinion, actually only refer to wind load and would then only affect roofs with a greater pitch. But can probably say more about that.

Even without this phenomenon, the solar extra yield would not cover the additional cost of the hipped roof. That would be especially for this aspect ... ... even a Pyrrhic victory of the first order (and not all the other three sides ever face north). The strongest sun comes at noon, from above. Exactly (and again not specifically related to the OP or this thread): for a shockingly large number of people of the currently first-time building generation, the earth is a flat disk where warmth comes from the south and darkness from the north. We used to have "basic knowledge" in elementary school – that has apparently been abolished.

P.S.: whoever the hell made this new four-minute rule ...

Right, that’s not true either. The roof structure is more complex to make torsionally rigid than with a convertible. Storm and driving rain actually attack ridges even more than verge edges, only the wind load on the gable sides disappears above the eaves. The half-hipped roof is actually the best form in this sense, which is why it’s quite popular among the Frisians.

I grew up with it, so my parents must have done everything right. ;) There was really never anything wrong with it. Only a marten, but that's another story. ;)

Our house construction company informed us by phone last week that they want more money, otherwise they will not start... Our fixed price still applies and the builder is ready to start immediately. We have also responded in writing and are considering hiring a lawyer. Our house price is 321,000 euros and the additional payment is supposed to be 36,800 euros. The reason given is increased material prices.
